Real generosity towards the future consists of giving all to what is present.

Week 1 independent travel

It has been six days since I left the USA.  What a whirlwind! And Happy Birthday to my mom in Florida!  Already I have seen the hustle and bustle of central Munich and the sobering and horrific sights of Dachau Concentration Camp.  When visiting Dachau, one is shocked at how Hitler abolished all civil rights for everyone in the name of “protection for the state.”  The slightest offense was punished in the camps, which accelerated the terror. It is hard to even comprehend  especially when you see the crematorium. See pics and a post from Dachau about in a later post.  I have also walked the Old World streets of Salzburg, attended mass in a 900 year old cathedral, watched women in evening attire ride bicycles, and enjoyed a Sound of Music tour into the countryside.  I also had a blast rafting down the gorgeous Soca River in a crazy monsoon and hiked in part of the amazing Trijlav National Park in Slovenia.  I have enjoyed the raznolikost “diversity” of everyone I have met…new Brit friends in Dachau and Slovenia…the fun Slovenians in Lake Bled…and the kind staff at all my hotels.  I haven’t eaten too much, but I have had a lot of great Bavarian and European pastries! I did hit a bump with my transition day in Lake Bled/Croatia that cost me some time and extra money…but I was stuck, so it taught me a few lessons.  TTYL. MK
